• Brivo Smart Readers

  Native readers for the Brivo cloud platform. Mullion (B-BSMF), single-gang (B-BSSF), and integrated keypad (B-BSKF) bodies in black and white, plus tri-tech (BSPMF / BSPSF / BSPKF) variants that also read legacy 125 kHz HID Prox for migration projects. Bluetooth, NFC, 13.56 MHz smart card, OSDP. Best fit for HOAs, multi-tenant residential, retail, and small-to-mid commercial.

• HID Signo

  The modern enterprise standard. Models 20, 40, and keypad 40K, plus PIV-rated variants for federal projects. Reads Seos, iCLASS, MIFARE DESFire, HID Prox, and mobile credentials simultaneously — the universal upgrade path for any HID installed base. OSDP, IK10 vandal rating, HID Mobile Access. Best fit for healthcare, banking, federal, and multi-site enterprise.

• HID iCLASS SE / multiCLASS SE / pivCLASS / Proximity

  Targeted readers for specific credential populations: iCLASS SE (Seos and iCLASS only), multiCLASS SE (Seos / iCLASS / MIFARE / Prox combo), pivCLASS (federal FIPS 201 PIV), and the legacy ProxPoint / ProxPro / ThinLine II / MiniProx 125 kHz family. Used for installed-base maintenance and credential-policy-specific deployments.

• Paxton — Net2, Paxton10, Touchlock

  Three Paxton platforms in one ecosystem. Paxton10 (cloud, with Slimline, Vandal-Resistant, integrated Keypad 2-factor, and Desktop enrollment readers). Net2 / Switch2 (on-premises, with KP50 indoor and KP75 MIFARE outdoor metal keypad readers). Touchlock (standalone single-door PIN-only keypads with built-in controllers for outdoor sheds, mechanical rooms, and auxiliary doors).

How to choose the right reader

• 1. Where does it physically mount?

  Mullion (~45 mm wide) clips onto narrow aluminum frames at storefront and lobby doors. Single-gang fits a standard US wall plate next to the door — the most common commercial form. Single-gang + keypad adds PIN entry for 2-factor doors at sensitive areas. Long-range extends identification distance to several meters for parking decks and elevators. Standalone keypad runs a single door with no separate controller.

• 2. Which credentials will people carry?

  Mobile + multi-tech reads phones plus 13.56 MHz smart cards (Brivo, HID Signo, Paxton10). Mobile + multi-tech + Prox adds legacy 125 kHz for migration projects (Brivo tri-tech, HID multiCLASS SE, HID Signo). Smart card 13.56 MHz only (HID iCLASS SE) for Seos / iCLASS-only sites. 125 kHz Prox only for legacy ProxPoint / ProxPro / ThinLine II maintenance. FIPS 201 PIV for federal facilities. Standalone PIN for keypad-only doors.

• 3. Indoor, outdoor, or vandal-prone?

  Standard plastic readers (Brivo, HID Signo plastic body) suit indoor and protected-outdoor positions. Vandal-resistant readers (HID Signo metal kits, Paxton10 010-254, Paxton Touchlock 521-715, HID iCLASS SE metal R10) bring IK10 impact rating, 4-point security-screw mounting, and IP67 weatherproofing — the right pick for school exteriors, parking decks, public buildings, and unsupervised outdoor entries.

• 4. OSDP or Wiegand wiring?

  For any new-build project we default to OSDP v2 — encrypted, bidirectional, supports tamper detection, and uses one wire pair for unlimited readers. Wiegand remains acceptable only for legacy maintenance and minor retrofits. Every reader on this page is OSDP-capable.

• Multi-tenant residential & HOAs

  Brivo cloud or Paxton10 with mobile credentials at the lobby, garage, amenity floors, and service entries. Resident self-service through Brivo Mobile Pass or Paxton Connect.

• Healthcare

  HID Signo or Paxton10 Keypad at restricted areas — pharmacy, medication storage, records, IT closets. PIV variants where federal grant requirements apply.

• Banking & financial services

  HID Signo with 2-factor at vault back-office and ATM vestibules. pivCLASS where federal compliance is required. Encrypted DESFire for high-value branches.

• Education

  HID Signo or Paxton10 Vandal-Resistant at school exteriors. Standard Signo or Brivo at staff entries and administrative offices. Touchlock keypads at outbuildings and equipment storage.

• Federal & federally-funded facilities

  HID Signo PIV (20-PIV, 40-PIV, 40K-PIV) and HID pivCLASS for HSPD-12 compliance. We commission the full PIV authentication flow and validate against the panel.

• Retail, hospitality, commercial offices

  Brivo or Paxton10 with mobile-first credentials. KP50 / KP75 keypads at back-of-house and service entries where 2-factor is desired without full PIV.

• Outdoor sheds, mechanical rooms, gates

  Paxton Touchlock standalone — a single keypad, programmed locally, no networked panel required. Right tool when the rest of the project is networked but one door isn't worth the wiring.
