Best Fit & Recommended For
Schlage MT11 Mullion Multi-Technology Reader
The Schlage MT11 is the mullion-style multi-technology reader from Allegion’s Schlage MT series — engineered for narrow aluminum storefront frames, lobby vestibule mullions, and any door position where a wider single-gang reader simply will not fit. The slim ~45 mm body clips onto the metal mullion (vertical frame member) of an aluminum-and-glass door without intruding on the visible glass surface.
The MT11 reads the same multi-technology credential mix as the rest of the MT series — 125 kHz Prox (HID, AWID, EM, Indala) and 13.56 MHz smart cards (iCLASS, MIFARE Classic / Plus / DESFire, FeliCa, Picopass) simultaneously — outputting over standard Wiegand to any commercial access panel.
Where the Mullion Form Factor Matters
A storefront door has its handle, lock, and reader competing for ~75 mm of mullion width. A standard single-gang reader (the MT15 is ~70 mm wide) does not fit on the mullion — it has to mount on the wall next to the door, which means the reader sits at an awkward distance from the handle, or installs on the glass itself with adhesive (not a long-term solution). The MT11’s narrow ~45 mm body fits cleanly on the mullion at the same level as the door pull, giving users a natural credential-present position right at hand.
Where the Schlage MT11 Wins in Chicago
- Aluminum storefront doors — retail, restaurants, office building street-level entries
- Lobby vestibule doors — between exterior and interior in office buildings, condos, hotels
- Elevator-lobby doors — at floor lobbies in multi-tenant office buildings
- Multi-tenant residential lobbies with narrow-frame doors
- Healthcare clinic main entry vestibules
- Hospitality — hotel lobby vestibules, restaurant front entries
- Education — main lobby vestibules and entry vestibules at suburban Chicago schools
- Banking branch front-door vestibules
- Government and municipal building lobby positions
MT11 vs. MT15
The decision is purely about door geometry: MT11 for narrow mullion frames, MT15 for standard wall mounting next to the door. Both readers share identical electronics, credential support, output protocol, environmental rating, and panel compatibility — they are functionally interchangeable, just packaged in different physical bodies for different mounting situations.
