We install, upgrade, and repair commercial security systems across Chicago — cameras, access control, intercoms, and the networking infrastructure that keeps everything running. Built for property managers, HOA boards, and facilities teams who need fewer surprises and less downtime.
New installations, upgrades from legacy systems, and repair of what's already in place.
IP camera systems from Hanwha Vision and Axis with NVR recording, remote viewing, and coverage designed around real blind spots.
Door, garage, and elevator access with Brivo (cloud) or Paxton (on-premise). Key fobs, cards, mobile credentials, and full audit logs.
2N and ButterflyMX entry panels for visitor calling, package delivery, and concierge workflows with app-based door release.
Ubiquiti UniFi switches, access points, and VLAN design that keeps security devices stable and isolated.
Whether you're starting from scratch, replacing an outdated system, or fixing something that stopped working — we handle all three across Chicago.
Complete security system design and installation — from a single entry door to a 200-camera building. Every project includes a site survey, equipment selection, professional wiring, network integration, and full documentation. We design for real-world reliability, not spec-sheet numbers.
Many Chicago buildings run outdated equipment — analog cameras, standalone fob systems with no audit trail, or platforms from companies that no longer exist. We upgrade to modern Hanwha, Brivo, and Paxton systems while reusing existing wiring and hardware whenever possible, saving 30-50% vs full replacement.
Cameras offline? Door not locking? NVR not recording? We diagnose and fix security system problems across Chicago — whether it's a system we installed or someone else's work. We stabilize first, then recommend improvements. No pressure to replace what's still working.
Chicago's commercial buildings face a unique combination of challenges: vintage construction with thick masonry walls and aging wiring, extreme weather swings from lake-effect cold to summer humidity, high tenant turnover in condos and offices, and the constant pressure of keeping common areas, parking garages, and loading docks secure. A security system that works on paper but fails in a February power outage or a flooded underground garage is worse than no system at all.
At Vidimost, we design and install security systems that account for these real-world conditions. We've worked in high-rise condos along Lake Shore Drive, office buildings in the Loop and River North, medical practices on Michigan Avenue, warehouses in Elk Grove Village, retail spaces across Schaumburg and Arlington Heights, and residential communities throughout the North Shore.
Most security companies sell equipment and install it. We start from the infrastructure — power, cabling, network, and door hardware — because that's where most system failures actually originate. A Hanwha Vision camera is excellent hardware, but it's useless if it's on an overloaded PoE switch with no UPS. A Brivo access controller is powerful, but not if the low-voltage wiring to the door lock has been spliced three times over 20 years.
Every project we take on — new installation, upgrade, or repair — includes an assessment of the full chain: power delivery, cable condition, network topology, and physical hardware condition. We fix the infrastructure problems as part of the project, not as a separate billable surprise.
Many Chicago buildings delay security upgrades because they assume everything needs to be ripped out. That's rarely true. Our upgrade process starts with an infrastructure audit — we test every cable run, check every lock mechanism, verify every power supply. If the existing wiring is Cat5e or better and tests clean, we keep it. If the existing cameras have usable mounting locations, we reuse the infrastructure.
We regularly upgrade buildings from analog camera systems to modern IP cameras (Hanwha Vision, Axis), from standalone key fob systems to managed access control (Brivo or Paxton), and from buzzer-based entry systems to video intercoms (2N). The transition is phased door-by-door and camera-by-camera, so the building never loses security coverage during the process.
Some of our best client relationships started with a repair call. A parking garage camera that went dark. An access control system where fobs stopped working after a power surge. An NVR that's been "full" for months and nobody noticed it stopped recording. We troubleshoot and repair security systems across Chicago regardless of who installed them or what brand they are.
Common problems we fix: failed power supplies, network instability, dead UPS batteries, credential database corruption, worn door hardware, and systems abandoned by previous vendors. We stabilize first and recommend improvements second — no pressure to replace what still works.
We serve Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, including North Shore communities (Wilmette, Winnetka, Evanston), northwest suburbs (Schaumburg, Arlington Heights, Palatine), and the O'Hare corridor (Itasca, Rosemont, Elk Grove Village). See all service areas.
We care about the full lifecycle: planning, installation, documentation, and ongoing support. That's how systems stay manageable in real buildings with real staff turnover.
Diagrams, cable labels, IP address tables, and credential inventories — so the next person who touches the system knows exactly what's there and how it works.
Proper VLAN segmentation, PoE budgets, UPS planning, and clean wiring so systems don't degrade over time or fail during outages.
We modernize without ripping everything out at once — planned cutovers with minimal disruption, reusing existing infrastructure where it makes sense.
Beyond the four core systems, we offer focused services for specific needs — from system takeovers to network engineering.
IP camera design and installation for garages, lobbies, loading docks, and building perimeters.
Upgrade analog cameras to modern IP systems while reusing existing cabling and infrastructure.
Door control, key fobs, mobile credentials, and elevator integration with Brivo or Paxton.
Migrate from legacy fob systems to cloud-managed access control with full audit trails.
Troubleshoot and repair door controllers, readers, locks, and credential databases.
2N and ButterflyMX video entry panels for condos, offices, and multi-tenant buildings.
Replace outdated buzzer intercoms with modern video entry systems using existing wiring.
Structured cabling, managed switches, VLANs, and Wi-Fi coverage for commercial buildings.
Power over Ethernet budgets, UPS backup, and network infrastructure for security devices.
Audit existing security systems, document what's installed, and take over support from previous vendors.
It depends on the scope — door count, camera count, intercom needs, and existing infrastructure. A small system (8 cameras, one access-controlled entry) might start around $8,000-$15,000 installed, while a full building with 50+ doors, cameras, intercoms, and networking can range from $50,000 to $150,000+. We provide detailed proposals after an on-site survey. Read more in our installation cost guide.
Yes. We specialize in condos, residential towers, offices, and mixed-use properties across Chicago and North Shore suburbs including Wilmette, Evanston, Schaumburg, and Arlington Heights.
Yes. We design unified systems where door access events trigger camera recording, intercom panels share credentials with access control, and everything runs on a properly segmented network. Brands like Brivo, Hanwha Vision, and 2N are designed to work together when installed correctly.
Yes. We troubleshoot and repair cameras, access control, intercoms, and networking regardless of who installed them. Common issues include failed power supplies, network problems, credential database corruption, and systems abandoned by previous vendors. Call (872) 254-5015 for service.
In many cases, yes. We test existing cabling, door hardware, camera mounts, and network infrastructure during our site survey. If the wiring is in good condition, we integrate it with modern controllers, cameras, and software — typically saving 30-50% compared to a full replacement. The transition is phased so the building never loses coverage.
