From Vancouver Startup to Motorola Solutions

Avigilon was founded in 2004 in Vancouver, Canada, by Alexander Fernandes. The company made its name by pushing camera resolution beyond what the industry thought practical — releasing megapixel and multi-megapixel cameras at a time when most IP cameras were still sub-1080p. Avigilon’s vertically integrated approach included proprietary camera hardware, its own H.264 and HDSM (High Definition Stream Management) compression codecs, and a purpose-built video management system called Avigilon Control Center (ACC).

In 2018, Motorola Solutions acquired Avigilon for approximately $1 billion, integrating the camera platform into Motorola’s broader public safety and enterprise security portfolio. Following the acquisition, Motorola also acquired Openpath (cloud access control) and launched Avigilon Alta — a cloud-native video platform that represents the company’s future direction.

Avigilon Systems After the Installer Left

Avigilon makes strong enterprise video — and locks it behind a dealer program, which is exactly why buildings call us. The original certified installer disappeared or got acquired, licenses lapsed, and now the ACC server sits unmaintained with nobody holding admin credentials.

We take over the operational side: recover or rebuild access where possible, document the deployment, keep recording healthy, and give the building a realistic choice between staying on the platform or migrating to open hardware over time. That triage process is described on our takeover page.
