Alpha Communications is one of those American manufacturers that has been doing one thing well for so long that it’s easy to overlook. It was founded in 1983 by Mark Goldberg and his wife Madelyn, and it’s still a family-owned business based in Farmingdale, New York, out on Long Island. For four decades it has built, imported, and supported the unglamorous backbone of building communication — apartment intercoms, video entry systems, nurse-call and emergency-call gear, paging, and the door-answering hardware that a lot of older Chicago walk-ups and mid-rises still run on.
