Surge Protection for Camera and Network Installations

Rack-mounted and device-level surge protection for security head-end equipment, including PDUs with surge filtering and dedicated protectors for NVRs and switches.

Surge events are one of the leading causes of premature security equipment failure. A single lightning strike near an outdoor camera run can destroy the camera, the switch port it connects to, and the NVR port on the other end. Proper surge protection at cable entry points and inside equipment racks prevents these cascading failures.

Vidimost includes surge protection in every outdoor camera installation and head-end rack build. We select protectors rated for the specific cable type and PoE standard in use, and we verify protection status during every maintenance visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need surge protection if I already have a UPS? +
A UPS provides battery backup and a baseline level of surge protection, but it has a limited number of outlets. A rack-mount surge-protected PDU adds additional outlets with high-joule surge filtering for equipment that does not require battery backup — such as monitors, non-critical peripherals, and redundant devices.
How do I know when a surge protector needs replacement? +
Most quality surge protectors include LED indicators that show protection status. When the protection circuitry is depleted by repeated surges, the LED changes state. At that point the unit still passes power but no longer provides surge protection and should be replaced. Vidimost checks surge protector status during every scheduled maintenance visit.
