UniFi U6 Mesh

The UniFi U6 Mesh provides outdoor WiFi 6 coverage at a lower cost than the WiFi 7 outdoor models. Its IP55 weather rating makes it suitable for sheltered exterior locations — covered walkways, loading docks, patios, and protected building perimeters.

The mesh capability allows wireless backhaul between access points in locations where running Ethernet is impractical or cost-prohibitive. While wired connections are always preferred for security infrastructure, mesh mode provides a practical solution for extending coverage to hard-to-reach outdoor areas.

Vidimost installs the U6 Mesh in Chicago-area projects where outdoor wireless coverage is needed but the budget or site conditions do not warrant the premium outdoor WiFi 7 models. It integrates into the same UniFi management dashboard as all other access points and network devices.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between IP55 and IP67 weather protection? +
IP55 protects against water jets and dust ingress — suitable for sheltered outdoor locations. IP67 provides full immersion protection. For fully exposed installations in Chicago weather, the IP67-rated U7 Outdoor models are the safer choice.
Can the U6 Mesh operate in wireless mesh mode? +
Yes. The U6 Mesh can connect wirelessly to other UniFi access points when running an Ethernet cable is impractical. However, wired uplinks are always preferred for security applications due to better reliability and throughput.
